Burnside KY (August 25, 2018) The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series presented by DirtonDirt.com and Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series would visit Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside, KY for the Harold Hardgrove Memorial event and Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg, IN would score the victory and $5,022 payday for the Schaffer’s Oil Iron-Man Late Models and Ricky Arms of Moss, TN would pick up his second Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series victory of the season with the Modified victory worth $1,022.
The victory by Jameson would be his second Iron-Man Late Model tour victory of the season and would take place with Jameson behind the wheel of the James Rattliff owned MGL Auto Sales, On-Time Courier, Hatcher Auto Sales, JRR Motor Sales, Wave Length Hair Salon, Budda Bert Transmissions, B&B Motorsports, Wayne Bowen Racing Supply sponsored #12 Swartz Race Car, Pro Power Race Engines powered entry. The win by Moss also marked his second Iron-Man Modified tour win of the season and would come aboard the Richard Harlow owned Diamond Auto Collision, Paintless Dent Repair, Barren River Pest Control, Fire Pit Spirits sponsored #4 Bandit Race Car, Dale Meers Race Engines powered entry.
The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series Harold Hardgrove Memorial main event would take the green flag, with Jason Welshan and Billy Moyer, Sr. going side-by-side for the lead entering turn one. Third-place starting Jason Jameson would look to the inside of that pair exiting turn two and the trio would race three-wide down the backchute, with Jameson grabbing the lead entering turn three, with Welshan taking second, while Scott James would slip by Moyer, Sr. to snag third. Jameson would set a rapid pace at the point and would catch and start lapping slower traffic by lap eight. James would take the second position from Welshan by lap ten and would slowly reel in Jameson for the lead, however, Jameson would work slower traffic to perfection and would keep lapped cars between himself and James. Moyer, Sr. would close in on Welshan for the third position and would claim the spot on lap seventeen. Jameson continued to lap slower traffic and was in the process of building a comfortable lead when Steve Elliott would slow entering turn one to draw the first caution of the event on lap twenty-seven. The restart would see Jameson maintain the lead, with Moyer, Sr. launching off the top side of turn two to grab the second position, however, before the field could complete that lap, a massive nine-car pile-up would occur on the frontchute that would be the cause of the red flag being displayed as the track would be blocked. Once the track was cleared and action resumed, Jameson would again set a quick pace out front, with James, Moyer, Sr., Welshan, and David Webb giving chase. James would see his night end up abruptly when he would pull off the track while running second just a few laps after the restart, giving second to Moyer, Sr. at this point. Jameson would start working slower traffic again on lap thirty-four and would go unchallenged the remainder of the contest to claim the victory. Moyer, Sr. would finish in the second position in his first appearance at Lake Cumberland Speedway since 1992, while Welshan would complete the podium finishers with his third-place finish. Webb would wind up fourth, while Stephen Breeding completed the top-five finishers. Eleventh-place starter Jeff Watson would lead the sixth through tenth place finishers across the stripe, followed by John Ownbey, sixteenth-place starting Derek Fisher, twentieth-place starter Steve Godsey, and seventeenth-place starter Steve Stollings.
In Brucebult Performance Iron-Man Series Modified action, Ricky Arms would take the lead at the start of the event, with he and teammate Peyton Harlow battling the entire distance and working slower traffic beautifully at times, however Arms would pull away in the final eight laps of the event to pick up the victory. Eleventh-place starting Victor Lee would charge through the field and would slip past Harlow in the waning laps of the event to score runner-up honors, while Harlow would settle for third. Jimmy Crabtree would finish in the fourth position, while series points leader Clayton Miller rounded out the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Keith Smith, Shon Flanary, Tommy Gregory, Amos Bunch, and Ben Petrey.
It would be a 3-way battle for the top spot in the 15 lap KDRA Super Stock Feature between eventual winner, Ronnie Cole, Jr of Morehead KY, Eddie Stewart of Manchester, KY and Tyler Collis of Nicholasville, KY. Cole would take the lead late in the race to pick up the win in his 1st trip to Lake Cumberland Speedway. Stewart would roll in 2nd, followed by Collis, Daniel Stamper of Hazard, Ky and Logan Preston of Berea, KY, rounding out the top 5
There would be 34 KDRA Mini Stocks on the grounds racing for the $1,022 top prize. Eddie Stewart of Manchester, KY would take the lead early and cruise to the win and huge payday. Brandon Creech of Waco, KY would battle his way up through the field to finish 2nd, followed by Bill Robinson, also of Waco, KY, Shane Irvin of Liberty, KY and Danny Winchester of Park City, KY finishing out the top 5.
